If you want to do less and earn more, you need a side hustle.
Let’s talk about that.
There are a ton of ways to make money online. So where do you start?
So many side hustles take too much time to get started. Even building Notion templates, and creating courses can take months or years to become profitable.
If your problem is that you need some good side hustle ideas you can start now, I am here to help you. I am going to share and explain the six best side hustles that have made me money fast.
I tried every one of these side hustle options when I was a teenager and in college, and they all generated real income.
So if you want to learn how to generate more income quick, stick around.
These six side hustles are great, especially if you are in a pinch, or your budget is maxed out this month.
They aren’t necessarily long term careers, but they can make you money fast.
The problem with a lot of online side hustles and passive income ideas is that they take too long.
You need money for groceries this month. You’re trying to make you car payment today. Your share of the rent is past due.
When you’re in this kind of crunch, launching a podcast is not going to solve your issue. You need months, maybe years to connect with an audience and build community.
But you need money now.
Side hustle Number #6 is food service.
Most restaurants will call you a Waiter.
But what you are really doing is customer service and sales.
There are a lot of pros to this side hustle if you are a teenager or in college. It’s the perfect gig for nights and weekends, so you can stay in school.
The busiest time at restaurants is dinner. That’s when you will make the real money.
The average waiter at a chain restaurant like Denny’s is making over a hundred dollars a day. At fancy spots you can make $500 a night. And waiters earn their tips in cash. This means you get paid real money day one.
As a part-time waiter your weekly salary is low, but this can actually be a good thing. Here’s why, tip money won’t affect your student loans or scholarship eligibility. So you can still qualify for financial aid.
The downside is you will have to work your tail off. No standing still, no napping and no lazy people in sales. You will use your charm and hustle to earn cash fast.
When I was a waiter, I averaged $2-300 a night in most restaurants in Toronto. I earned $500 a night when I moved to New York.
The key is to sell expensive drinks, call everyone by their name, and repeat orders out loud back to your customers.
The only catch with being a waiter is that you have to work at a place full of customers. Stay away from an empty restaurant, or you’ll end up mopping floors and wiping your loser boss’s countertops.
If you get a gig at a restaurant that’s not busy, quit on your first day!
Number #5 is pet services.
Now there’s a catch to this side hustle. You have to love animals. And you have to want to be around cats and dogs and rabbits all the time.
If that sounds like you, then pet sitting is a perfect side hustle to make you $50 today.
The best part about dog walking, or kitty care, is that you can start this side hustle wherever you are now.
The whole world is full of people who adore their pets, and want them to be pampered and cared for when they are at work or on holiday. That’s where you come in.
But you will probably do better in a city, or somewhere that people commute and work long hours. The only difficult part of this gig, is that you’ll probably have to generate your own leads.
You will have to answer help wanted ads, make posts on social media, and even do it the old fashioned way, by knocking on people’s doors or putting up signs at the dog park.
Pro tip: research what other pet sitters charge in your home town, then undercut their prices by 20%.
Don’t worry, you can raise your rates later after you have won your regular customers’ trust.
But don’t be shy. The pet owner needs to see how much you love their pup. Once they see your passion for animals, they’ll be happy to pay you.
Pet care is also a very reliable side hustle because the problem and solution is universal. People worry about their beloved pets when they’re not home.
All you need is to build trust by showing your passion for their pooch. You add value and earn cash.
Number 4 is a digital product.
Start making templates in Notion, like the ones in my links. The key to generating income with this side hustle is making a great product.
No crap allowed.
Ask yourself what you can produce: art, writing, software or even advice.
This is not social media influencer or advertising work. The key to making $50 on your first day is going to be finding a market that already exists.
You will not reinvent the wheel on your first gig. Find a product that is already available, and people are buying a lot.
Test out a few competitors products, or improve something you are already using, then you tweak it to make it your own. `
Just like pet care, the key to selling a successful product is solving a problem. People love to pay for someone else to solve their problems.
There are literally thousands of niche products that can generate you $50 one day one.
Just don’t fall into the trap of thinking a side hustle is passive income. It’s not, the hustle part means sales.
You have to make sure the product reaches customers and solves their problem.
For example, my spending tracker solves people’s cash flow issues because it is literally impossible to remember everything you buy in a month. My tweak was adding a bit of code that includes a simple to use visual flow chart that makes your spending decisions automatic and easy.
Number 3 is working as a virtual assistant.
This is basically the perfect online gig for a young person, and probably should have been number one on this list.
Before you can become a business owner, and create your own income full time, you need to learn from someone who is already living your dream.
The first key to being great is learning.
A virtual assistant gig is the perfect job to sponge up knowledge and tips from a mentor.
You need to do something thousands of times to work out the perfect method and practise. It’s almost impossible to gain that kind of experience when you are a teenager.
You can get paid to apprentice while you learn from a mentor. Doesn’t matter if they aren’t in your city or town, when you get a great virtual assistant side hustle.
Just make sure to reach out to people you actually respect, and love, would do anything to work for. This is not an easy job, or fit for laziness.
You will have to be resourceful and ready to hustle. But learning on the job is the best thing a young person can do with their time.
Again, my only worry is that you’ll be tempted to drop out of school and go full time, if you’re really ambitious.
If you’re too scared to reach out to one of your heroes, send me a message and I’ll try and help you out.
Number 2 is writing online.
There are so many ways to make money writing online. Your only issue with this side hustle is going to be keeping track of your gigs.
Start with a simple plan. Sign up for Fiverr with the link below. Make your first gig for content writing, blogging or writing posts on your favorite social media.
The key to this side hustle is writing what you already know. Every single niche has successful influencers and brands that are way too busy printing money to worry about writing their daily posts.
Pick the topic you are most passionate about because you’ll have done the research already. Whether you love beauty vlogging, cooking, or sports, there is money to be made in every category you follow.
The key to making your first $50 on day one is going to be generating leads on new customers.
Do not hold back on this, write up your pitch to produce great copy and content, then reach out to every single successful person who you follow in your passion.
Again, as long as you are offering to solve one of their problems, they will be happy to pay you money to do work that you love. The only catch with this one?
Once the good reviews and cash start coming in on fiverr, you’ll be tempted to go full time.
The number 1 side hustle for teenagers to make $50 on day one is to start your own business now.
This one is not easy. Running a one person business is not for lazy people.
But entrepreneurship has the greatest opportunity to learn and earn.
There is no secret to starting a business. You find a market where other businesses are already making money, online or in person.
You define the problem you are going to solver for the customer, and then you offer them a solution in exchange for cash.
You can charge $50, $500 or $50000 a pop. Pricing depends on the market for what you are selling. The key to opening a successful first business is market research.
Know your customer. For most young people, that means starting a business that can sell to other teenagers and students.
Tutoring, car detailing, note taking, relationship advice. If you can help other people, you can make money on day one. And way more than $50.
But you have to be hard working, persistent, and ready for failure.
If you are afraid to get up and dust yourself off after a fall, then you might not be ready to start your own business yet.
